Advertisement & Internet

Advertisement is a form of marketing, which is used to entice customers to buy products. The world of advertisement use to rely on news paper ads that are then sent to customers personal home and through television, but now, among everything else, its also through, via the internet. Advertisement through the internet or not, according to the book, advertisement is also a for of argument. An argument of persuasion. Where the premises may be true or it may be false.


One can look at an advertisement, and may or may not believe the claim. For example, I had seen an advertisement on television and online regarding a facial product line, called Meaningful Beauty. In the advertisement it said, it is a product made from a rare type of melon found in France, and it helps reduce wrinkled skin, and tighten pores, and makes your skin look even tone and healthy. It even claims that Cyndy Crawford uses this product for herself on a day to day basis. The advertisement also claimed that, if this product were to be bought outside, it would cost hundreds of dollars, but if you order from them, then they will reduce the pricing to just a payment of $39.95, and satisfaction guarantee or your money back. I was excited to see if there product really works, since I have been looking for a facial product line for myself and nothing I have tried so far had worked. Therefore, I had gone ahead and ordered the product to try it out.

The result was that it did not work. Not only did it not work, but the product itself had cause my skin to be irritated when using it. When I had tried to return the product, I was charged an shipping and handling fee, which was not mentioned when I had originally ordered it.

  1. Hi! I like the way you describe what advertisements are in the beginning of your blog. But make sure to stick to the meat of this assignment, no veggies :) I know exactly which product you are talking about. I have seen it hundreds and hundreds of times on T.V. with Cindy Crawford. I have my own personal experience with it from my mother. I have seen her buy these products over and over again watching her throw away the stuff the next week because it does not work. Only two things she has bought from an ad have ever worked surprisingly enough. great work!

  2. I agree with Jinxx how I liked that you defnied and gave an explanation on what advertisements are. This is also a great ad for this assignment because first it shows a well known model, Cindy Crawford to sell this beauty product. If it works for her and helps make her skin look even more beautiful than ever, then it should work for anyone else that wants and needs healthy and anti-aging skin. This can work for some and not for others. It depends on each individual's skin. However, it is nevessary to accept this claim because on the bottom of this advertisement, it mentions three links. It discusses the science of this product, it describes the system itself and how it works and it allows the consumer to "meet" the model for this ad and the Doctor who created this. Therefore, we can accept this claim, however because it is a skin care product it is up to the discretion of the individual because not all,or even on average this product will work all the consumers.

  3. I love your advertisement example. My friend tried the same facial product as you and she told me that it made her skin very dry! I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with this product. I thought the advertisement was a trickster cause they use a famous model, Cindy Crawford. I'm sure that many young girls will get sucked in after they see a pretty model having nice skin when she uses this product. It kinda sucks how society nowadays are so caught up with looks rather than the personality. But nevertheless, the marketing/advertisement company is smart by using a famous model as their campaign!

  4. I liked the example you used for your advertisement, and the fact that you actually had first-hand experience from using the product. It frustrates me how advertisers will get a celebrity endorser to represent their product and entice new buyers. I mean let us be honest, when has Cindy Crawford ever needed help with her skin?? The lady is beautiful. It is like when they put Jessica Simpson as the spokesperson for Proactive.... um she had acne? What? They even make Meaningful Beautiful sound so exotic and special by suggesting it derives from a rare melon in France. Ha! They are just trying to suck us ladies in, but I am not having it! ;)
